03/12 – 17/12 Education Faculty, Firat University welcomed delegates from the United States to Elaziğ, Turkey. Here is the Smilebox program and here is the photo album. Elizabeth Sandell, Steven Reuter, and Elizabeth LeBrun were co-sponsored by Firat University, Minnesota State University (Mankato, MN) and the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI). During the week, more than 300 undergraduate students, along with more than 25 university faculty members, participated in conference sessions. Featured topics included the History of Kindergarten, Quality Assessment in Early Education, Best Practices in Kindergarten Pedagogy, and Language and Literacy in Early Education. Meetings also featured orientation and practice in use of the ACEI Global Guidelines Assessment as a framework for assessing and establishing quality early childhood education programming. The meetings provided a platform for international, cross-cultural, and cross-disciplinary discussions on topics affecting children, including education, cognitive and physical well-being, and other issues that directly impact the experience of childhood today in eastern Turkey.
