Personality Characteristics

As part of teaching Human Relations in a Multicultural Society, I have been exploring inventories that purport to assess characteristics of personality. Here are the results of some of these quizzes:

My Communication Style is Achiever. Rose (2014) describes this as Task-Oriented with a Swift Pace. “The Achiever is highly focused on direct action for results. The Achiever wants what he/she wants and he/she wants it NOW, with little patience for excuses or social nicety. Getting things done is a key to this style. In order to accomplish goals effectively, eliminating waste is essential.” [Rose, M. R. 2014. SpeakStrong Communication Style Quiz. My Life Values include Spirituality, Achievement, and Privacy.  It is important to me to have spiritual beliefs that reflect belief in a higher power; to challenge myself to achieve; to have quiet time alone to think. My Temperament Type is INFJ: introversion, intuition, feeling, judging. Keirsey (2014) describes this as a Counselor: “an exceptionally strong desire to contribute to the welfare of others, and find great personal fulfillment interacting with people, nurturing their personal development, guiding them to realize their human potential. Although they are happy working at jobs (such as writing) that require solitude and close attention, Counselors do quite well with individuals or groups of people, provided that the personal interactions are not superficial, and that they find some quiet, private time every now and then to recharge their batteries.” [Keirsey, D. 1998. My Learning Style is the visual learning style. I prefer using images, pictures, colors, and maps to organize information and communicate with others. I can easily visualize objects, plans and outcomes in my mind’s eye. I also have a good spatial sense, which gives me a good sense of direction. I can easily find my way around using maps, and I rarely get lost. [advanogy.com. 2003. Learning Styles Online. Accessed June 11, 2014 at http://www.learning-styles-online.com/inventory/]

My Strengths include Learner, Focus, Maximizer, Input, and Connectedness. I have a great desire to continuously improve; to follow through on the plan; to maximize each person’s strengths as a way to stimulate personal and group excellence; and to know more. I have faith in the links between all things. [Rath, T. 2007. StrengthsFinder 2.0. New York, NY: Gallup Press. Accessed June 11, 2014 at http://www.strengthsfinder.com/home.aspx
