General Education

****Students need to complete a total of 44 credits of general education classes for any Bachelor of Science degree and total of 52 credits of general education classes for any Bachelor of Arts degree. This  includes 8 credits of sequential foreign language (i.e., SPAN 101 & 102, GERM 201 & 202) . NOTE: Students can do three semesters of sign language to meet the language requirement for the BA. *****

2013-2014 General Education Requirements (Pages 4-10)  The 2013-2014 General Education Requirements from the Undergraduate Bulletin are outlined starting on page 4 of 10.

Double/Triple Dipping This is a strategy that allows students to best utilize the worth of General Education classes by choosing classes that count for multiple goal areas. For example, Philosophy 226W completes: Goal area 9, Goal area 10, Writing Intensive (This is an example of double dipping because 2 Goal Areas are being completed with one course. The writing intensive is not a part of the GE requirement after the 2012-2013 bulletin, but is still being completed.)

However it is important to for students to understand the following:

  1. Students still need to complete the minimum 44 overall General Education credits
  2. If students choose to double/triple dip they can only count the credits once.
  3. Students can only take a maximum of 2 courses/8 credits (whichever is greater) in the same discipline and it count toward General Education (8/2 Rule)
