Dr. Paul Mackie began his academic career at Minnesota State University, Mankato in the fall of 2004 as Assistant Professor of Social Work.  Dr. Mackie focused his research in the area of rural behavioral health labor force issues, and over time has published several articles and book chapters in this area.  He is also the co-author of “Practicing Rural Social Work” published in 2016, which focuses on assisting behavioral health providers to be better prepared for rural practice.  Additionally, he has published research on social work ethics and community development.  He was promoted to Professor in 2013.

Dr. Mackie served as the President of the National Association for Rural Mental Health (NARMH) from 2015-2017, served on this organization’s Board of Directors for over 10 years, and was co-chair of the NARMH annual conference in 2018.  He currently serves as University Assessment Coordinator overseeing the Minnesota State Mankato student learning assessment process, assisting with annual accreditation standards at the program and university levels, and assists programs with developing and implementing effective evaluation practices.

Personally, Dr. Mackie is an active downhill skier, avid runner, and enjoys a variety of outdoor activities.  Dr. Mackie is an honorably discharged Veteran from the United States Army where he served in the Artillery.
